Facebook is opposing a new feature in iOS 14 that prevents it from collecting user data without their consent.

The confrontation between Facebook and Apple over the collection of user data has received a new round. The social network said that from now on it will specifically ask users to allow it to track their activity for advertising. According to the updated post on the Facebook blog, for this purpose, a message will be displayed on the screens of users' devices, in which the company will explain to them why it is so important to give it permission to collect data.

Recall that iOS 14, released in September 2020, received a new App Tracking Transparency feature, which requires developers to obtain permission from users to track their activity on sites and applications, as well as to access the advertising identifiers of their devices.

Thanks to the new function, when you open an application that wants to track user activity (for example, Facebook), a special window is displayed on the screen with two options - "Allow tracking" and "Ask the application not to track." If the user selects the second option, Apple blocks access to the advertising ID for the app developer.

While App Tracking Transparency will surely appeal to many users, advertisers are not happy with it. Over the past several months, Apple has been heavily criticized by other companies who believe the new feature will significantly hit small businesses.

Doesn't support App Tracking Transparency and Facebook. The social network announced its intention to convince users to select the "Allow tracking" option.

“As we stated in December, we disagree with Apple’s approach, but we will still display its dialog box to ensure the stability of the business and the people using our services. The new dialog suggests that you have to choose between personalized advertising and privacy, when in fact we can and do both. Apple's dialog box also says nothing about the benefits of personalized advertising, ”a Facebook blog post said.

Before displaying Apple's options dialog box, the social network will display its own dialog box, which will explain to users all the benefits of personalized advertising, such as helping small businesses, the ability to keep free apps free, etc. In addition, the company warned that users who opted out of tracking activity, they will still see ads, it will just be less relevant.
