The messenger's management allegedly did not stop extremist conversations on the eve of the storming of the Capitol in Washington on January 6 this year.

Coalition for a Safer Web, a Washington-based nonprofit, has sued Apple to remove the Telegram messenger from the App Store for failing to stop extremist conversations ahead of the storming of the Capitol in Washington on January 6 this year. As reported in the lawsuit, Telegram administrators did not take the necessary measures to suppress the spread of such messages.

According to experts, the lawsuit is an attempt to put pressure on Apple and force it to act against Telegram, as has already been done in the case of the social network Parler. Apple and Google removed Parler from their app stores because the app was used by supporters of the current US President, Donald Trump.

The lawsuit also alleges emotional distress through negligence and a violation of the California business code, as well as unspecified damages and an injunction obliging Apple to remove Telegram from its app store.

Commenting on this news, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled that the United States is a party to the convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms and other international agreements.

“All these documents say: everyone has the right to free expression of free opinion. This right includes the freedom to work with information regardless of state borders, orally, in writing, or through the press, or artistic forms of expression, or in other ways of his choice, ”the minister stressed.
