The scammers called the victims and informed them that suspicious transactions were being made from their cards. Then the "policeman" called and asked for the code from the SMS. In Kharkiv, cyber police covered a call center, whose employees posed as bank clerks and police officers and asked citizens for information about bank accounts. Having received the necessary information, they removed money from the cards. The total amount of damage is one million hryvnia, according to the press service of the National Police.

“It was established that three local residents recruited about 40 operators to work ... On hacker forums, they bought databases of bank customers, who were called by call-center workers disguised as financial institution employees. Citizens were informed that suspicious transactions were allegedly carried out from their bank card or that an application for changing the financial number has been received, "the message says.

The scammers assured the victims that this information would be passed on to the police.

After that, another employee of the call-center called the victims and introduced himself to the police. He said that in order to block fraudulent activities, you need to tell him the code from the SMS. As soon as the citizens called the code, the attackers stole money from the bank card.

According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of damage is one million hryvnia.

During the search in the call center, more than 40 computers and 40 telephones were seized.

The defendants were announced on suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The suspects face up to eight years in prison.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved. Investigative actions continue.
