The PST has released new details on the hacking of the Storting's IT systems.

The hacking group APT31, sponsored by China, may be involved in the hacking of the computer systems of the Norwegian government in 2018, Hanne Blomberg, head of counterintelligence at the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), said in an interview with NRK.

“In this case, we have information that clearly indicates the involvement of the APT31 group in the operation against the government administration,” said Blomberg.

Last week, the PST published new details about the hacking of the IT systems of the Storting (Norwegian parliament). According to a press release from the department, the attackers managed to gain administrator rights to access centralized computer systems used by all government agencies in the country and steal some data. It is assumed that the hackers got into the hands of, among other things, the logins and passwords of government employees.

The investigation did not reveal any signs of theft of classified information or personal data of Norwegian citizens, PST reported. Although in a press release, the department did not specify who exactly was behind the hacking of the Storting, it is noted that the attack could be the work of a group that hacked into the computer network of the Norwegian cloud provider Visma AS in the summer of 2018.
